Turbo bypass valve, charge air bypass?

I have a 2000 9-3 with around 147k miles. A few weeks ago, I began noticing a strange sound from the engine compartment when I back off the throttle while shifting. It only seems to occur if the turbo gauge is the yellow boost zone when I shift. It sounds like a wind howl (almost like a sound effect in low budget horror movie). Then yesterday I got a CEL with codes P1110 and P0455 (EVAP emission leak). I had the code reset after it was read, and it did not come on the rest of the day.
Searching the forum it sounds like a possible cause could be the turbo bypass valve or the charge air bypass. Anything else I should check?
