Testing turbo bypass valve

As mentioned back on Monday, I may have a failing turbo bypass valve on my 2000 9-3 (CEL came back on today after clearing it on Sunday). Doing some searching here and elsewhere says you can test the turbo bypass valve by applying suction to the vacuum hose and seeing if it holds suction. If not, it is failing.
Standing in front of the engine compartment, the turbo bypass valve seems to be right in front near the middle of the compartment (connected to two larger hoses with hose clamps and the vacuum hose on the other side), correct? If it is failing, it seems pretty simple to disconnect the old one. Is this as simple a DIY job as it looks with a new part from eEuroparts?
Finally, any suggestions on the best way to apply suction to the vacuum hose to test it? Vacuum cleaner and duct tape? :-)
