What I do on all clutch cables now is to take a washer that is used on exhaust manifold studs, cut a groove through it and place over the cable and in between/inside the rubber bushing and the end of plastic sheathing.
That way it takes up the slack in there created by the design flaw and makes at least that part of the cable last longer.
