If you're handy and have the tools, changing springs and struts is a pretty easy job, especially the rear ones. The hardest part of the job is removing the front struts from the car.
Also, you might wanna check the struts yourself to see if they need replacement. Push down on each corner of the car hard and watch how the car bounces. If it just springs back into place smoothly without bouncing a lot, the struts are probably fine and you don't need new ones. If you notice it seems to bounce up and down for a few seconds the shocks are probably due for replacement.
If you think the shocks are due for replacement though, and don't have the time/tools to do it yourself, $1100 doesn't seem too far fetched. You might also considering ordering the lowering/sport spring kit from genuinesaab and bringing that to the mechanic to install since you're replacing everything anyways.
