This weekend decided to give the gearbox another flush with a gallon of ATF. Also decided to loosen the cooler bolts so that I can flush the cooler and check that the oils pumping out. Everything put back. Got on a drive and things did not look that much improved. Then decided to check the level and it looked a bit overfilled. Decided to remove the excess ATF. The gave the car a drive and things started to improve to almost normal.
However today got it to drive and after a couple of minutes check gearbox light came on for the first time. Then gearbox stack in 2nd gear, not even reverse was available. Decided to take get rid of the car. However while going to the scrap place I noticed that the gearbox suddenly decided to select 3rd gear as well. Attempted to use reverse and it started to work as well. Stop the engine and started it again, and yes the gearbox light went off and everything is working perfectly now.
Did another couple of drives and the gearbox light seem to come on intermittently. However when it comes on, I have 2nd and 3rd and reverse. There is no trace of the locking problem I had when all my gearbox problems started. It feels now just the opposite.
I wonder if the initial problem, now burned off the lock clutch in the gearbox and the gearbox ECU detects this and gets into limp mode. I will leave it for a couple of weeks and see if things stabilize, if not the car will go.
