Generally, no, there almost always are no warning signs that a fuel pump is about to fail. What happens generally is one day you go to start your car (battery, starter motor and electrical systems all fine) and you keep turning and turning over, but the engine never starts. A failed fuel pump can very likely be the culprit.

I had mine changed at 145,000 miles just as a preventative measure. My original never really failed on me, I just wanted to be safe. However, if what Garg G is advising you works, then that's the way to go. I'd seriously look into that if I were you, it will save you a good $400 to $500 (I now kinda wish I asked BEFORE I had mine replaced).
