B235E vs. B235R Viggen how to identify which I have Posted by Viggen Aero [Email] (#977) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Viggen Aero) on Mon, 10 Aug 2009 22:25:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the B235R in my 01 Viggen with what was advertised as a B235R from an 00 9-5 Aero. It was listed as having 78,000 miles.
The car doesn't seem to have as much power as I recall with the replacement engine. I am wondering if this engine could in fact be a B235E. I changed the plugs and the engine did not have the required NGK PFR6H10 PLUGS but had the BCPRR6ES as used in B235E ( no Aero engines). I know they are a lot cheaper- so that could be the reason they used the cheaper plugs. The engine runs fine and did with either set of plugs.
I tried in vain to get the donor car VIN, to see if the 8th letter was in fact a " G". I did not receive a response from the seller. ( I now realize I should have verified all of this beforehand- live and learn).
Is there a way to identify if I have a B235R ( I used my own TD04 turbo)? Where do I locate the engine number? I could contact SAAB with that and find out.
If I do have a B235E- am I going to end up destroying it with the extra power afforded by the Mitsu TD04 and higher output ECU? It is my understanging the B235R has a higher compression ratio, and I expect some stronger internal parts to cope with the extra power.
