I had an issue that, to me, would be pretty random if not extremely rare.
My ABS was kicking in to a point where it was unsafe not knowing how it would stop. In snow this made things quite hairy.
I was having ABS issues to the point where I sent out my ABS ECU which came back as not being able to reload the code. Got a used one installed it still had the same issue of the ABS kicking in. then I replaced the sensors in the front end. While installing one I noticed that, by feel, that the ring on the axel had a large gap in it. Comparing it to the other side and then looking at it up close, the ring on the axel had split from corrosion so that one gap was much wider. This would obviously send a faulty reading to the ECU. Which probably killed it.
I put on a rebuilt axel and haven't had a problem since.
Clean your sensors well, check the connections and maybe send your ECU to get checked.
