I, too, made sure to consult my manual after an Autozone employee punched my 2000 Saab 9-3 SE model info into the puter and found that it needed DOT4, not DOT3 as was recommended.
I wanted to make a quick comment on the Check Engine light problem, which I also have. The only reason I have a disdain for this stupid light is that it prohibits me from getting my state's mandated inspection sticker if the light should be on while I take it in for emissions testing... If this is a problem for other Saab owners out there, this is the trick I have found will turn the light off long enough for them to do the inspection: Disconnect then reconnect the battery. It clears it every time.
Otherwise, I may try getting a new gas-cap, as I have never heard of this before. The Saab mechanic just gets a "General" code when he plugs into the puter, which is of no help.
Thanks for the board and any helpful comments,
Christina
