The 98 and up 900/9-3 and 9-5 clutch system is a little bit different in that the bleeder screw doesn't bleed the slave cylinder as it did on the older 900 and 9000 models.
So the slave cylinder needs to be bled before it is installed to get all the air out.
It is however possible to slowly get the air bubbles to work them self up to the bleeder screw by keep driving the car and bleeding the system over and over again.
That it still easier than to remove the transmission again.
Drive the engine and transmission hot several times and bleed in between and I think you will be fine.
