Used gem, or another man's headache?

Recently, my ancient '92 Buick got up close and personal with a semi-truck forcing me to finally retire it.
Since my vehicle is used only to cart me back and forth to work (Approx 5k miles per year), I am looking at older high mileage cars that I can just buy outright. It would be fairly pointless to take out a loan for something that I don't drive very much.
A recent arrival at once of the local dealers is a 2002 Saab 9-3 SE with 159,000 miles. They are asking $3950. The car had a single owner, and appears to be in no worse shape then some of the domestics in the same mileage range. I've wanted a Saab since I was 16, so this appears to be great timing for a used one to show up.
What say you, oh Saab-philes? If you were in my situation, would you consider the 9-3 with that many miles, or forget about it and keep looking at domestics?
If yes, is there anything in particular I should have checked out on the car before I look into it further?
