I owned 99 9-3 CONV. for nine years from new. When I sold it, I had finally had to do a couple of things, but the car was still quite solid, the top was still good. It still had great pep, and with the manual was a hoot to drive.
On the other hand, because it is 10 years old, be ready for 2 things. One is the reality that things like carpets and tops will show wear here and there. The second is that individual parts will fail, and they will be expensive to address in either time or money. In my last year with mine, I had a seat belt pre-tensioner fail. Expensive part. My son and I did the labor to save hundreds. It was not hard, but took some time because it a type of job we had never done. The manual climate control failed. The only part needed was cheap, but the time to disassemble the dash to get to air flow control was substantial, again because I had never done it before. Not hard, but not quick.
What do you want? When you want a fun to drive convertible, a boring appliance like car won't satisfy. If you want dull reliable transportation, a ten year old Saab won't satisfy. If you want both fun to drive and drama free, $3000 won't satisfy.
Personally, I have driven convertibles since 1991. Still like them. The Saab was the quickest, easiest to drive in many ways.
