but I only do that if I plan to do a job and then run out of time. Otherwise he supplies the parts. He's gotta eat, too. Some shops will charge a bit more for a BYOP deal, so you may not really save anything.
My #2 guy wants to buy the parts unless it's something real minor, like when I had him do the rear bushes on the front control arms on my daughter's 9K when it was in for inspection. I had the part, it was right before Christmas and we had to get it done.
I find places like eEuro sell parts for close to what the indies pay, so the savings can be substantial, but you need a good relationship with an indy, so let him make some money. The way I see it is that you save a lot on DIY jobs, so when you have to go to a pro the hit doesn't feel so bad.
