I drive a 1998 Saab 900S, 2.3 Liter non-turbo engine.

Just the other day, on my way back home, the ABS light on my dash lit up. Then after a few seconds, turned off. After a couple minutes of driving, it comes back on and off in the same fashion...this time, it appeared as the dash lights dimmed somewhat then came on fully bright.

Same thing happened yesterday, and today. Only today, a few other lights came on and off. At one point it appeared as though my entire electrical system FAILED as the lights on the dash and all of the needles dropped...the engine was still running though (thank God!) and this lasted for only about 2 to 3 seconds, and then sprung back up.

Now the "Check Engine" and "Check Gearbox" lights are both on, and steadily.

I've had a similiar thing like this happen to me before and so it turns out that the alternator was overcharging, so I'm thinking that that's probably what it is. But I've also recently had the computer that controls the windshield wipers, reverse lights, etc. replaced and wondering if perhaps that has anything to do with this problem? Whenever my car is on, the headlights can not turn off even with the knob switched all the way to the left (off position). I've asked the tech about it and he told me not to worry about it, that the unit I got just so happened to be programmed with daytime running lights.

Any suggestions?

Also, any good places online where I could find a good deal on a new or rebuilt alternatore (if indeed that is what the problem is, and suspect that it probably is)?

Thanks in advance!
