Since the fuel pump is electric, it runs at the same speed regardless of the cars speed. It's how many hours the pump has run that's important. If you have 100-k miles on the car and always drive 70 mph on the highway, then your pump will have 1428 hours on it. If you do a lot of stop-and-go driving, and only average 35 mph, your pump will have twice the hours of use on it - 2857. And since the motor is electric, the brushes, commutator and bearings all wear. Maybe someday they will switch to brushless motors which should help pump life. Since the pump is inside the tank snd cooled by the gas, running a low level of gas will let the pump run hotter which equals more wear... Ron
