Bill,
I have a 99 9-3 and a 96 900SE. The door panel removal should be the same. There are two screws hidden behind plugs in the door pull handle, and one behind the door handle also hidden by a plug. After you remove these, you are just going to pull outward to release the snap clips on the underside of the door panel. There is a A-shaped piece of black plastic near the mirror. This is also held on by clips and can be popped free. Slide the door panel up and away from the door lock and you should be good to go. The key to not breaking a bunch of plastic clips or trim is to take your time.
Concerning the speakers. Any of the higher end Saab OEM stereo systems are pretty proprietary. I had a tough time trying to find an exact replacement door woofer due to the width and depth. I ended up taking them to Toby Speaker in Fort Worth and they rebuilt them for $27 each. Neededless to say I now have bass instead of buzz. What an affordable difference!
Just a thought about Saab speakers and what worked for me.
