I'm struggling to get a handle on the amount or road noise i'm getting through my tires on my 2001 9-3.

Last year I replaced by worn Dunlop's with Falken's and the road noise was immediate and load. Very distracting.
I put up with them as i was not sure if I would have the car beyond this winter. Now i will be keeping it for perhaps another year but do not want to replace the tires but can't face another summer of load road noise.
I get noise with the winters but did not expect it with the Falken's.

Any ideas why the noise might be louder then expected? Mechanical?
