I replaced my fuel pump ('99 9-3 auto coupe with 165K miles) about 6 weeks ago by removing the back seats and cutting a hole with tin snips. The pump sits dead center in the car. I ordered a Scantech full pump assembly from eEuroparts as I didn't want to mess with an insert and the lines in the old assembly. The part was about $235 as opposed to about $80 to $100 for the insert, so to me it was worth the time and effort saved. That solved my problem until my ignition cassette finally died a week and a half later. I ordered a new one also from eEuroparts because I knew it would be here the next day. At the moment the old girl is running like new (touch wood). At the time I changed the pump I had a little less than half a tank of gas. There's a little more to it than what I've indicated, but it gave me less trouble than my driver's side suspension work last fall. Hope that saves you from dropping your tank, it did me. Good luck.
