loose nut for stanchion arm bolt

Hi Guys,
I was trying to retorque my subframe bolts as I had written before because I had some clunking in the front end. It actually turns out that the nut for the stanchion arm bolt came loose either because of rust or whatever. When I tried to re torque the stanchion arm bolt with the appropriate setting I could not tighten it. Bolt is not stripped and you can hear the nut turning inside the chassis. This is actually a pretty bad thing since there is no way to get to that nut. Has anybody experienced that before and has any suggestion how to fix that. I read somewhere that people have drilled a hole through the opening of stanchion arm bolt into the passenger foot area and then drill a hole from above to access the nut.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks a lot
Markus
