I have the same car/stock radio and tried all I could think of to solve the poor AM reception; nothing worked. I thought it might be just the distance to the stations but my '93 Mazda 626 gets excellent reception, although the Saab's reception is better when I'm within 20 miles of Atlanta. This is only when the car is running so it could be a poor ground somewhere or a component is interfering. For example, if I disconnect the IAC while the car is running, reception improves a lot. The Saab fix for that was to install a capacitor but that didn't help. One of these days, I'll take it to an car audio shop.
