In context this makes sense...I think that the repair cost (absent rebuilders like BBA and Module Masters) is what really catches my attention. I really don't blink twice when I hear that I need to get new tie rods ends, brake rotors or an engine mount since these parts are really not that expensive. On the other hand, however, I needed to replace the throttle body in December which was something like $650 parts and labor with a rebuilt unit from BBA and I am not sure what I would have done if my only ABS module option was an OEM replacement at 5x the cost of a rebuild.
I may need to factor this into my decision making when I get my next car as we typically purchase highline models that are 3-5 years old. My 2001 9-3 had 101K miles when I bought it in 2005 and was relatively trouble-free until the past 6 months.
