No where near as fun as a stick even with Sport mode. IMO, a convertible with a manual is one of life's little pleasures. The auto isn't particularly slow or bad on efficiency, but I'm a manual guy so I just don't like it. The NG900 has a clutch cable, it is not hydraulic (except maybe '98??) and a lot of people don't like the feel of it (never driven one, my convertible is a 9-3 with hydraulic), but I still can't see it being worse than an auto.
Also, watch out for top problems with the NGs - they use electric motors that can be problematic. The system was switched to hydraulic in '99 with the intro of the 9-3. You might be better off trying to find a 9-3 for the hydraulic top and clutch - they can be found at good prices as well.
