Yes, the whole thing needs to come out, but it only takes five minutes.
Pop the grill off. Remove the two screws directly on top of the housing - they have grey tabs and then remove the screw holding in the turn signal lamp. Slide the turn signal lamp out and there will be one horizontal screw. After those are all removed the headlamp will slide out. Use a small flat screwdriver to undue the electrical connection for the headlamp to take the whole thing out of the car.
Use the same small flat screw driver to pry off all of the retaining clips holding the lens on and carefully remove the lens from the body. Not sure if the new lens comes with a new gasket so be careful not to tear the old one just in case.
R&R the same way. Be very careful around the reflector, it is both sharp and the finish is very easily scratched.
Might be a good time to take out the other lamp and clean the inside of that lens too.
