I would encourage you to go for it. I did it a couple of months ago for less than $100 without any help except the machine shop that cleaned up and checked the head was level. I used this board, WIS and a repair manual. I labeled everything and laid out the parts in order. While doing it, you might consider replacing certain parts that are not too expensive such as oil pressure sensor, coolant temp sender, new bolts on intake and exhaust. I also got new seals for the turbo and the coolant and oil pipes. Don't be in a rush.
