The bearing is commonly available type/size. Almost any bearing shop can order it if they don't already have it on hand. I don't remember the bearing number as it was a few years ago when I was researching for mine.
The clutch, as you stated, is another story. I don't think there was anywhere (except Europe) where it was available retail. I ended up getting mine from a rebuilder in FL - it may actually have been Polar. Whoever it was, I believe I saw that they carried the bearing, so called them if they knew where I could by a new or rebuilt clutch. The guy on the phone said he could rebuild one if he didn't already have one on the shelf. If I recall, it was about $50 for the clutch with new bearing and electromagnet.
The quality was great. The clutch surface was machined properly and the new bearing was staked in properly. The problem with trying to DIY a clutch bearing is that the process of pressing the old bearing out and new bearing in can warp the face of the clutch surface. This will cause problems as the clutch and plate surfaces wear. Another issue would be properly staking the new bearing in.
Even if you could do the bearing swap properly, you would have to machine the surfaces flat as an old clutch will invariably have wear grooves, etc. that will eventually cause slipping problems down the road (no pun intended).
