The link rod can come off linkage or ball stud on tranny. The ends of the link have a little clip that snaps the ball socket tight on the ball. Last time I checked, the link rod was not a separate item from Saab. If broken the entire $230 new linkage needs to be replaced or else sourced used from a junk yard. One of many overpriced parts used on the NG900/9-3.
