Speakers Randomly Cutting Out Posted by Goldenbear [Email] (#123) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Goldenbear) on Thu, 18 Nov 2010 11:19:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Last night, I heard a pop from the speakers and the front and rear speakers cut out. Turning the radio off for a few seconds then back on fixes the problem temporarily. At seemingly random intervals, it keeps repeating. Also, sometimes the sound level is noticeably lower after turning the radio off and on, even though I haven't touched he sound controls.
While parked, I noticed the door speakers continued to work, so I decided to move to the passenger side to verify that the passenger side door speaker was also working. I found that opening and closing the driver door caused the front and rear speakers to turn back on.
So, since the front and rears are driven by the head unit, it almost seems like a loose connection of some sort at the head unit. Either that, or the head unit is starting to go and needs to be replaced.
Anyone have other ideas? This is a 2001 Viggen Conv.
I've been planning to replace the speakers and add an amp for the doors and rear, but I wanted to keep the head unit.
