the heater core as well? My car has ONLY 40 k miles. I know this is very "young" and I only drive it in the spring/summer for about 3k miles. I am thinking of replacing the heater core just because it's such a pain to remove all of the plastic covering (centre console, shifter housing....etc). Not that it's hard, but it is time consuming and you run the risk of breaking the plastic the more you remove it.
I have heard of people's heater cores failing at 70k and some failing much much later (way past 100k). Is this silly of me to do?
Other problem: Car is in storage for another 3 months or so. It, over the last 2 months has leaked about a litre or coolant. So, it seems to be leaking quite a bit (or is it?). Now, when I start the car for the first time in the spring, I like to drive it a few miles to get the oil nice and circulated, and get the engine in good running condition. Question: Will I be able to top off the coolant, start the car, drive it for 20 minutes and come back to do the repair the following day? Or, at the rate of coolant loss at the moment, will it (the heater core and o-rings) leak much more while under pressure? If so, will it leak inside the car, or out the hose?
Lots of questions, I know. It's kind of an interesting situation with my car being stored and all. Unsure of what to do.
