I found that the clamp/brace made a huge difference in firming up the steering, so much so that after modifying the car to Nordic stage 4, I also added a poly mount to the steering rack on the opposite side.
It makes logical sense to me that if the wheels are not held firmly in place, lots of torque and HP will have them move all over the place. A steering rack that is held in place but soft rubber will allow for this type of movement. The downside is I think the longevity of the rack will probably be affected as now many of the hits the rack will get from pot holes and such will directly absorbed by the rack internals and not the rubbery mounts.
IMO the rescue kit is well worth the money spent in improving handling and drivability. As far as I know the Viggen 'rescue kit' as originally designed by Abbott racing also includes a subframe brace and various poly bushings. All of these make a HUGE difference in how the car performs, especially if you begin to up the power.
