Basing your opinion on eEuro just because of brake pads may be a bit of a stretch.
Why do you need a mechanic? If you are going to do the clutch, taking the flywheel off and replacing the crank seal is easy in comparision. The money you spend on a mechanic will pay for the tools to do this job. Lots here have done this.
I started wrenching my first 1979 saab back in '87. I still have the tools; saved me thousands in repairs in 23 years.
