looks like a bit or oil saturation on the rubber turbo hose there. this is "normal", in that the turbo tends to seap or blow-by a bit of oil from around its internal seals over the years.
the gradual coolant loss may be the starting signs of a head gasket leak. I've seen head gasket leaks in many different ways. have a cylinder leak down test done with specific request to monitor the coolant passage leakage (expansion tank cap removed and watching for bubbles or over flow
). my guess: they will find a minor leak in cylinders 2 or/and 3. However, if the leak down test shows nothing, it is all still possible that the gasket leak is only "drinking coolant" while the engine is running, not expanding compression into the cooling system (which would cause an overheating condition). Head gasket leaks can be tricky like this.
