Have the same car and am in the middle of replacing the clutch. The throwout bearing has been making noise for about 2 years and I lubed the collar (sleeve) on which it slides through the access hole once in a while but now the disc is beginning to slip. The clutch itself may be ok but with 55K on it, you might as well replace it, too. You likely have a cable - check driver's side in engine compartment for it - and there should be an inch of play at the pedal, although some check it at the lever going into the bellhousing. If you replace the clutch, have the flywheel machined, and replace the rear main oil seal, the two differential seals, selector rod seal, some do the clutch bearing sleeve which incorporates the transmission seal, some do the rear motor mount since it's easy to do with the trans out. Shouldn't be a problem to drive for a while, maybe a long while if you want to try lubricating the sleeve.
