I had the same question. To get it out, I drilled two opposite holes and used self-tapping screws so I could get a grip with pliers and pull it out. Still a little tough. Went to home depot with the new seal to find something to drive it in with. Found a PVC endcap which has a square on top for a wrench, only $3. For the differential seals, I found a piece of pipe.
Remember the position of the seal as it is now. Mine was not quite flush. Mine also was not leaking at 150K and I wonder now if I should have bothered; it extended the clutch job by a day. By the way, I've got a leak now at the differential seal on the right side of the transmission. I had some difficulty getting the transmission lined up - I had left the intermediate shaft in place. And I forgot that when I separated the trans from the engine, that the engine shifted toward the rear. So, at one point, the intermediate shaft was in the seal, but not centered, so I think I may have damaged it. Also, I didn't replace the o-ring in the seal housing.
