Right Turn Signal Out of Control

I have a 96 SET which has been having some strange behavior with the right turn signal lately. When I have been driving the right signal will stay on for periods of time and then may go off. When it is flashing right, if I turn the stick for a left turn, both will flash on the panel. The most bizarre effect if what I might call the "Ghost Signal." I had the car parked in my driveway with key off and out and I got a call from my neighbor informing me that my car's directional was flashing on the right side. Finally, to avoid the possibility of a dead battery, I pulled the fuse for the lights. I am driving around quiet streets with no signals and trying to figure out what has happened. Anybody got any idea where to start with this diagnosis. I called my buddy, the long time parts man for the oldest Saab dealer and he was at a loss. He suggested tapping the collective head of the Saab People and that's what I am doing. Thanks,
Bill Yahwak
