It's easy to forget how brake fluid creeps into crevices instead of dripping down. The leak is from a corroded rear brake hose -- the metal junction -- and probably was initiated last summer when, after years of use being undisturbed, I flushed the lines with fresh fluid as preventive maintainence. The old brake fluid had moisture in it that had started the corrosion, and the fresh new fluid just accelerated the corrosion all the way through the junction... and it kept on creeping. In this case, it's just scary how the creep from the positioning of the line can do enough damage to KILL YOUR CAR...silently...in less than a year...even without road salt exposure!
The main message to be archived is that Saab NG900 rear brake hoses will fail and should be checked: replace them on any car over 12 yrs. old prior to adding new fluid.
