Factory Audio head unit question

My SAAB audio unit has some issues: it doesn't always turn on unless the volume know is pressed repeatedly, and it doesn't retain the programming to turn on when ignition is turned on. I have tried cleaning every contact and checked under the volume knob for dirt. I'm not an electronics guy, but it acts like a capacitor may not be working. Any ideas, or should I just get it refurbed?
