I picked up a cheap '02 Viggen with a bad motor. Balance shaft chain/sprocket broke and ground up. Plugged oil pickup and rest is history.. Head still looks good and zero sludge/varnish in engine at 174K?!
Anyhow, I have a few engine options...I have a block/crank/pistons from a '99 or '00 9-5 B235. Has "A" pistons in it. Second option is to toss in a 234 short block from a '96 9000 (probably a stonger built engine from pistons etc?), put on the 235 head, etc. and go.
I did a similar thing on my 9-3SE with a 204 engine converted to accept a 205 intake setup/pan/pcv, etc. so I know what it takes to make it all work with some patience. My real question revolves around my donor engine having the proper pistons etc. for the 230HP application.
On Eeuro they only list an "AB" or "B" piston for std size. My donor 235 has "A" ones in it. I am not sure if this makes any difference as I have not had to deal with this before?? The Viggen engine pistons have no markings on the crown at all.
One other thing. The Viggen rods have bolt on caps, where the other engines have studs with nuts to hold the caps. Was this some change in the higher HP engine rating, or just a production change?
I want to build this Viggen engine using what I have available so any input is appreciated. Thank you all.
