Engine stall...won't start Posted by NCCaniac [Email] (#352) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NCCaniac) on Mon, 8 Aug 2011 18:35:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My 2000 9-3 has been throwing CEL P0455 codes off and on for the last couple of weeks. I thought it might be loose gas cap as it has sometimes been in the past, so I have been tightening the cap and clearing the code. I also checked the condition of vacuum lines as I had in the past when I had replaced the turbo bypass valve and some of the vacuum lines several years back at a time when I was also getting P0455 codes.
Today, on the way home from work, the CEL came on again, so I pulled over, checked the code (same P0455) cleared it and checked the gas cap again. After that, the engine was running a bit rough and finally stalled out about 4 miles down the road while idling at a stop light. After it stalled, it would crank but not start again. Finally had to get a tow home from AAA.
So, ideas of what to check? On one hand the hard crank but no start on a hot engine (about 95 degrees today here) seems like a CPS failure, but I replaced the CPS about 4 years ago with a Saab OEM CPS from eEuroparts. A new CPS should last longer than 4 years, shouldn't it? As I mentioned, the vacuum lines seem OK. EVAP purge value perhaps? Seems like that would explain the rough idle and stalling, but would that prevent it from starting again? Anything else to check?
