Re: Awful sound ... and now the rest of the story Posted by juanm [Email] In Reply to: Awful sound from engine compartment, juanm |
So a new ignition switch was installed - new part was about $170.
The good news is that when they took the console apart they found a key to my car. I never had an extra key so it was good to have.
But when I picked up the car, they told me my Air bag light was on and that the TWAIN unit was also not responding. I also had a bunch of codes noted. The central dash light alarm (with the exclamation point on it) was also illuminated. They figured that when the ignition switch was stuck on, there was a power surge throught the car's electrical system and somethings got zapped. I then try to drive the car and we decided to put my convertible top down. After unlatching it and hitting the top power button, nothing happened. Tried again, nothing happened. NOTHING. So I can't get my top down either. They told me they would have to do more diagnostics. I drove the car home, I thought it might be running a little rough but I think that is cuz I am looking for more problems.
So now what?
Additional diagnosis, I am sure, will be expensive ($90/hour, I think) and then new parts will be even more.
So could the ignition switch stuck on with the starter running (for not very long 3 - 7 minutes maybe) cause a power surge that would zap devices and/or wiring. Why wouldn't fuses pop first?
I fear it will be too expensive to bring my 1999 Saab 9-3 Turbo Convertible 5-speed.
WHADAY Think?
