All depending on how the clutch pedal travel feel is to a trained foot, it might very well be that the clutch cable is working correctly and it is in fact the clutch not releasing properly.
If it is very little free play in pedal to begin with and the resistance in pedal from pushing on the clutch happens fairly high up but still doesn't release the clutch when pedal is floored, it could be the fingers on pressure plate worn thin enough from throwout bearing that the fingers fold instead of pressing/releasing the pressure plate.
