I've done this many times over many years to many cars and a few quick bursts of the starter will be fine provided you pull the fuel pump fuse (you don't want gas to dilute the oil. As Ron mentioned, a bit of oil down the throttle body (or there is a fogging spray for marine applications) will also coat the valve stems. You do want the pistons to run up and down at least a couple of times to ensure that the oil is properly distributed. By hand (crank shaft pulley or wheel) will also work but it's more work.
