Trunk leak - very long

I found a leak source not listed on this board, the trunk gasket. At one point I had removed the trunk gasket to clean all the sediment that had built up over the years. After cleaning the area and replacing the gasket, which is fully intact and looked like new, I had the mystery trunk leak. I removed the trunk pad, speaker cover and drivers side wheel well cover and the hard plastic trim across the back of the trunk. I went through all the typicals, sun roof drain, tail lights, etc. but still had the leak. With a hose and much patience I isolated it to the trunk gasket. With the gasket removed and a gentle spray from the garden hose, the trunk remained dry. Doing the same procedure with the gasket in place yeilded water in the trunk within 2 minutes. The water was wicking up and over the the body seam that the gasket attaches to, following it down to the bottom of the seam that is concealed by the plastic trim. At that point there are a few holes in the inner panel that it drains into and puddles under the tail light. The fix was to wipe the body seam down with denatured alcohol and re-install the gasket after cleaning the mating internal surface.
Note that the trunk gasket has an internal metal structure to it that needed to be crimped to get a secure fit. This was occuring on the drivers side because of the pitch in my driveway. The same would have happened to the passenger side if the car was turned around. It took about a week for the trunk mat to dry out hanging in the sun.
