GM already made plenty of bad choices and they were hurting plenty. It's normal business practice to cut costs and spin off stuff that isn't making you money. Once Saab was spun off, look at what happened: because they themselves couldn't spin anything off or sell assets, they had to close down production and not even make payroll. GM did what they had to do to keep the company going and of course also had to enter chapter 11 protection to buy more time.

I've purchased plenty of OEM parts that failed shortly after they were installed, so I've gone with used and aftermarket instead. Case in point, the "hooter" valve. I went through 3 of them in a row until I got the Forge unit, which has been 100% rock solid for years. I also recently bought fog lights that normally cost $150-$250+ through the site sponsors for less than $100 directly from Amazon.com. I also went through 2 OEM MAFs before recently buying a rebuild from Rock Auto for less than 1/3rd the cost. Given the fact that ANY part can fail, what makes more sense, roll the dice with $100 or roll the dice with $350??? Yeah, well, I've got bills to pay, so you know my choice.

Two of the eBay sellers I checked have very high ratings, one with almost 8,000 responses and 7 day return policy. Gold Wing is also very highly regarded and I've dealt with them personally and was plenty happy with the results. I don't know if they have the clock spring, but if they did have a used one, I personally would not have a problem buying from them.
