A/T Shift lock solenoid override

I have a 1999 93 2.0 'vert auto box -- the shifter won't shift out of Park. Solenoid clunk sound is missing, so I'm guessing it's the failed solenoid switch. Brake lights are working.
I thought initially it may have been the brake "pedel" switch. Replaced that but to no avail.
I noted that Sam L just disabled the solenoid switch by removing the hook which locks the shifter, and replacing the solenoid (http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/NG900/index.html?bID=257509). That's the route I'm going to go rather than spending the money on a replacement switch (which appear to run an unbelievable $350).
I have to pull half the lower dash apart to replace a relay switch, so I figure I might as well keep going and get to the shifter.
I did started the solenoid job one late afternoon from the rear console, but ended up re-assembling everything when I didn't have a good reference for taking apart the trim and parts around the shifter area.
Has anyone done this job on an A/T? Any advice/pictures/diagrams/reference you can provide?
I appreciate any help
Thanks
