I had my 'vert windshield done three times: once to replace it; then immediately after because they used the wrong tint; then about a year later when it started to whistle (insurance paid first, warranty covered second and third).
Every time they replaced the trim, even when it was only on there for a day (wrong tint installed). I talked to the glass guy about it and he said they always replaced it, there was no way to get it off undamaged. They also would not do a 'vert in a driveway, they always wanted the car at the shop as they said it was a more difficult job than most.
Is your repair covered by insurance? That would negate the cost. If not, and if the dealer can't get one, perhaps it's time to visit a u-pull junkyard and figure out how you can remove them. FWIW, the Saab PA warehouse is shipping again I would think this part would be in ample supply since it's a common replacement item and the same across many years. However, there was a note on the general board that a dealer has to put up $20K to get parts flowing again - perhaps this dealer hasn't made the commitment.
As for the Pilkington - I believe they actually manufactured the original glass for the car. They are the preferred replacement IME.
