I've had a 2000 9-3 LPT for about two months and am slowly getting it sorted out. Its running rich. I have a black sooty exhaust and the mileage is in the low 20's. I don't have any CELs.
I think I discovered a piece of the problem. The car used to start if I just looked at the key. Seriously. You wouldn't hardly hear the starter at all and the engine would be running. In addition, once warmed up, idle was a bit uneven. Not really missing, but certainly not smooth. My pea brain theorized that the injectors were not only mucked up, but dribbling once the car was turned off (hence the quick starts). I poured a bottle of Redline S-1 into 3/4 a tank of gas and by the time I got to empty, the quick starts were gone and I think its idling a bit smoother.
Could that be all that it was? I haven't had a chance to check mileage again. What I'm wondering about are the O2 sensors. I'm assuming that if they are bad, I'll get a CEL. Any thoughts?
