I have the same issue with my mechanics lift, here is what we do.
I grab under the wheel well, and lift, while he puts the lift arm under the car to the lift points. I only have to raise the body a couple of inches. Yes the arm does touch the car while in the air, but no damage is done. When the car comes down, it is sprung enough to drive off without lifting by hand again. Make sure the little "doors" on the ground effects are snapped back into place.
