A vacuum leak from a small hose like those 3.5 mm ones is unlikely to cause a no/low boost situation. In fact, on most my T5 (yours is) cars they rarely cause any loss of boost.
However, you're still on the right track. More likely, you have a large air leak like a tear in one of the intercooler hoses. If you follow the plumbing back starting the throttle body, you may be able to locate the problem. There are two large rubber hoses (like 2+ inches in diameter large) that connect the turbo to the intercooler and the intercooler to the rest of the intake piping. Additionally, there's a rubber coupler up by the throttle body which is prone to separating. My guess is your leak is there.
