First of all the V6 Motor scares me. As far as im concerned its a race car motor and requires special attention and the bucks to go along with it.
The general owner and general mechanic issue dont mix well with tis combination. Many owners dont understand what they have here. The seen is .... the water pump starting leaking so I took it to the dealer. The next day my wife picked it up and on the way home ... BANG.
They tell me now f they can fix it, it will cost $5500.00. If not and they have to replace the short block its going to be $10,500. Hows that for a familys budget? In my book ...it sucks big time. whose's fault is it that the lower belt tensioner decided to give it up at that time? I have had new Volvo timing belts on the old 240 motors jump several teeth for no apperent reason, several days after the install. All looked good on examination. Its rare but has happened. This is a job I have done many many times, yet occasionly it happens. I just put a new belt on and get on with it. In the case of the Saab V6 ....its a disaster.

On the synthetic oil issue. If it were up to me, I would use no more mineral oil. Synthetics make it look like something out of the stone age. I have been using it for all most 25 years. Pour point and thermal stability and friction factors are the issues here. It is scentific proof that most engine wear takes place on cold start up. Take a can of 10/30 mineral oil and a can of 10/30 synthetic and put them in a snow bank overnight. The next morning open both with the same size opening and turn upside down and watch. On the other extream, the next time you get a fire going, lay down a metal plate and let it get hot. Now put a cap full of each on it and watch.
I could write several pages here on experience with the synthetics.
It seems like all the exotics come from the factory now with Mobil1. Several years ago saab started using synthetics in the manual gear boxes and power steering. In time all moving parts will be lubed with special synthetic lubricants. It is my belief that the engineers are at work, not only designing parts, but they also design a calculated failure rate into them too. The bottom line is us as consumers are being screwed by a educated moron or worst yet a whole company full of them. It has something to do with responsibility to the share holders.
Think about it! Exhaust systems should be stainless steel, hardware and ALL.
So what if it initally cost twice as much. In the line of emmission controls ... what could be any better than to keep raw exhaust gases from entering the atmosphere. When you look at the exhaust emmissions from bad exhaust systems on a global level ... it far out stripps failed emmission components. You would think the authorities could see this. Sometimes I have to wonder, if in deed we are sheep among wolves.
