Find a junk car and cut off the wiring harness from that one to use as a test plug.
As you have found out, it is a safety system in place that connects the pins when the real connector is pulled out.
But I should also add that the reason for this system is so that no one use an cheap Ohm meter to check resistance of the pyrotechnics since they could blow up.
Yes, you will need a Tech 2 or other very high end scanner to reset fault codes in the SRS system on a NG900.
